BOGO Configurations in Toast Web

The BOGO configurations that are available will allow you to get very specific about which item(s)/group(s) are eligible for the BOGO discount.

When you select Specific item/group for Buy Items, you'll see an Items picker appear. Start typing the name of the item or group you wish to select, and any available matches will appear for you to choose from. You can add multiple rules to both Buy Items and Get Items.

In the example below, the customer can buy either Signature Nachos and something from of the Drinks group, or the Blurred Limes Burger and something from the Drinks group, and they'll get a House Guacamole for free.

Instead of having to select only one menu item, the "and" rules allow you to combine items for your buy items or your get items. The "or" rules allow for different combinations of items for the same discount type.

Example:

Your restaurant has a BOGO discount for 50% off a beer when your guests purchase an app and an entree. You have a few different set up options with your AND and OR rules.

  • Use of the AND rule with specific menu groups: Customer must buy an app (any app in the app menu group) AND an entree (any entree in the entree menu group) to get the 50% off a beer BOGO.

If the guest can only get the 50% off a beer BOGO discount with specific app and entree combinations, you can use AND and OR rules to accomplish this. For example, let's say your guests must order WINGS and either a pizza or the chicken sandwich to get the beer BOGO.

  • Use of the AND rule with specific items: Customer must by wings AND a pizza to get the 50% off a beer BOGO.
  • Use of the OR rule: Customer can by wings and a pizza, OR wings and a chicken sandwich to get the 50% off a beer BOGO.

You can use the or - to change the quantity of any of the required items. In the example below, a customer must buy 2 appetizers to qualify for a BOGO discount:

increase or decrease quantity buttons. two is selected

To adjust quantity rules further, you can set the Required # of Buy Items to indicate how many items a customer must purchase to qualify for the discount, and configure the Eligible # of Get Items field to specify the maximum number of items customers can receive in a single order.

For example, setting four as the required number of items and two as the eligible number will ensure customers need to buy four items to receive up to two discounted items.

When you select the Specific items/group option in the Get Items section, you can select as many eligible items as you'd like, but only one item will apply to the BOGO discount on any given check. In the example below, a guest would be able to receive either the House Guacamole or the Churro Bites as part of the discount.

If multiple items in the Get Items section are listed, the first eligible item on the check will have the discount applied.

You can also configure a fixed price for the “get” item in a BOGO discount. For example, “Buy one appetizer (at full price), get potato skins for $1.”

BOGO on the POS

Once you have created the BOGO discount in Toast Web and published your changes, it's easy to add the discount on the POS. On the POS, it will auto-add the discount to the selected BOGO items. Additionally, when you add items for the configured discount, select them, and then select the Discount button, you can add the BOGO discount.

General BOGO Guidelines

  • If a check qualifies for multiple BOGO discounts, the discount button will have to be selected for each individual eligible discount. If auto-apply is enabled, the BOGO will apply to a single deal.
  • An item cannot prompt a BOGO unless it is full price (cannot be already discounted).
  • An item cannot be discounted by a BOGO if it is not full price.
  • A single item cannot prompt more than one BOGO in an order
  • The item's menu configuration must be set to Yes - Can be discounted in order to be discounted as a BOGO.
  • Voiding an item that prompts a BOGO will also void the BOGO.
  • If your BOGO applies to the same item, you cannot merge items onto one line selected under UI options. Otherwise, it will be treated as one item.
    • Example: Your restaurant has a BOGO discount wherein guests get .50 off for each additional spaghetti meal when they purchase one (1) spaghetti meal. If items are merged into one line, five (5) spaghetti meals will be treated as one item, which in turn will give guests ".50 off" instead of $2.00 after the meal is purchased.
