This article covers legacy Cash Drawer functionality. An updated version of Cash Drawer functionality is currently in limited release with select customers. If the Cash Drawer experience on your Toast POS differs from what is described here, please refer to the Cash Drawers Technical Documentation for details on the new functionality.

Cash drawer lockdown overview.

Set Up Cash Drawer Lockdown

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Employees > Shift Review > then select Advanced shift review setup.
  2. In the Advanced shift review setup page, configure the following settings:
    1. Under the Shift review section, set the Required shift review field to Required
    2. Under the Declare cash tips section, set the Declare cash tips field to Tipped employees must declare cash tips
    3. Under the Reconcilde cash & tips section, set the Require reconcile cash & tips field to "Employee must turn in any cash sales" and set Lock employee to cash drawer field to "Required"
  3. Save and publish your changes.
  4. Ensure that the employee you are assigning the cash drawer to has the correct permissions. They should have Cash Drawers (Full) or Cash Drawers (Blind)
    1. If the user is a manager or shift leader, and you don't want them to have to lock themselves to a cash drawer, go to Employees > Edit > Cash drawer lockdown override
    2. Save and publish your changes
      1. Note: This setting is also something we suggest if you want a specific employee to close out a cash drawer, even if its locked to another user

Lock Down a Cash Drawer

Note: If an employee is locked to a cash drawer, they will be required to close the drawer during their shift review. 

For an employee assigned a Cashier role to lock down a cash drawer to themselves (no manager required):

  1. On the main menu of the Toast app on your POS, select Cash Drawers and then select the drawer you want to attach to. 
  2. Select the open lock icon next to the drawer name.

  3. On the pop-up screen, select Lock.

  4. Select Go

 

The cash drawer will now show a closed lock icon and the name of the employee associated with the drawer.
