Configure Custom Dining Options
Toast provides you with the flexibility to configure custom dining options and adjust how they behave when you use them on a Toast device. Watch this video or follow the steps below to learn how to set up dining options for your restaurant.
Video overview: Set up custom dining options.
- In Toast Web, navigate to Kitchen > Dining options > Dining options.
- Dine In, Take Out, Delivery, and Curbside dining options will be pre-populated by Toast. Select the +Add button to enter a new dining option.
- You can customize the name of the new dining option and edit the name of the pre-populated dining options.
- Behavior allows you to determine how you want the dining option to function. The behavior you select will determine what information can/needs to be associated with those orders.
- Dine In: Used for dining options where the guest orders and remains and the restaurant. For orders with this dining behavior, you can add table numbers and server assignments.
- Takeout: Used for dining options where the guest picks up the order from the restaurant. Orders with this behavior will require customer information.
- Curbside: This is a type of takeout behavior that will also require curbside pickup info.
- Delivery: Used for dining options where the order is delivered to the guest. Orders with this behavior will require customer and delivery information.
- Select the checkbox to enable a dining option as the Default. When creating new orders from the orders screen, the default option will be selected unless you manually adjust it.
- Select the checkbox to enable a dining option to Show on POS if you would like the dining option to be accessible to your floor staff. If this is deselected, this will allow you to have active dining options available for things such as third-party delivery providers that are not accessible for your servers use on the POS. Note: This setting does not enable the dining option modifier group. To enable this setting on your POS, navigate to Front of House > Order Screen Setup > Modifying Items and select Change dining option in Toast Web.
- If you’d like to turn off the displayed option on all menu items to mark them as Dine In, Takeout, Curbside, and/or Delivery, simply make sure Dining Option is unchecked under the Enable column.
- If the Future box is checked, the dining option will require you to schedule the order to be used.
- Once you've finished creating and adjusting the dining options, save and publish to push your new changes out to your devices.

Default dining options can apply to either your entire restaurant or to a specific device. To assign a default dining option to a specific device that differs from your restaurant's default, follow the steps below.
- On your POS main menu dashboard, navigate to Setup > Device Setup.
- Scroll down and select Device Default Dining Options. This setting allows you to select a default dining option for that specific device.
Note: At this time, default dining options can only apply across your entire restaurant or to a specific device. You cannot set different default dining options for Quick Order or Table Service mode. Dining options will be accessible through the order screen in Table Service or Quick Order modes. If you're using a default dining option, all newly created orders will be automatically assigned to your default choice.
Select the Dine In button to change dining options. Note that you are able to change the dining option on both the check and individual items. Assigning a dining option of Take Out, or Delivery may prompt for customer information or display an existing customer account.
