- To create a fixed discount, follow these instructions:
- In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Comps and promos > Discounts and promo codes.
- Select + Add a Discount.
- Name your discount. The discount will default to active. You can deactivate or reactivate discounts from the Discounts page.
- Set the Discount Type to Fixed and decide if the discount will be a set dollar amount or percentage off.
- Choose whether the discount will apply to an item or portion of an item, the entire check, or specific items/groups associated with the discount.
- Specific item/group - Will discount an item or portion of an item if it is one of the items listed explicitly. If the item you wish to discount has multiple sizes, search for the item then adjust the minimum quantity eligible for the discount as seen below. You can also select Any if using portions. Select Save when finished.
Note: There is currently no way to set an item maximum. The discount will apply to all eligible items on the check.
- Entire check - The entire check will be discounted; if an item, group, or menu is added to the discount configuration, the check must contain one of those items for it to be eligible. If you select this option, you'll also see the option to choose item exceptions to this discount rule, or required items for the discount to apply to the check.
- Exceptions are most commonly seen when configuring employee discounts to exclude alcoholic beverages as discounted items on the check level.
- In order for this to work, your discount cannot have the Bulk discount, Auto-apply discount, or Allow with other discount options settings selected.
- Any item - Discount applies to the first eligible item on the check, unless a specific item is highlighted when the discount is applied. Note: You must select the Applies to quantities less than 1 checkbox within the individual discount settings to allow discounts on fractional portions of the item.
- Adjust any other desired settings. See Other Discount Settings for some helpful tips.
- Save and publish your changes.
Note: If a fixed dollar amount discount is greater than the remaining total of the check, the check total will be reduced to $0. No credit will be issued for the difference.

On the discount details page, select Show next to Advanced Settings to open additional customization options.
- POS Name: Select a shortened name that will appear on the POS for this discount.
- Permissions Level: Discounts default to Any User, but you can select Manager if you'd like to require manager permissions in order to apply the discount.
- Allow with other discounts option determines if multiple check-level discounts can be applied to one check. Check this box if you’d like to allow this discount to be combined with other discounts.
- Exclusivity rules only work with Fixed and Open check-level discount types.
- All discounts are automatically exclusive, meaning that they cannot be used with other discounts.
- Auto apply discount: Fixed item-level discounts (e.g. $5.00 off nachos) can be configured to automatically apply to an order. If the check meets all the necessary conditions, the discount will be applied once a user selects send, stay, hold, or pay on the POS. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Auto-apply will not function for manager-only approved discounts. Auto-apply must be assigned a permission level to any user, meaning any employee can apply for the discount.
- Auto-apply will not function for discounts that have promo codes.
- Bulk discount: Fixed discounts with at least one required item on the check can be used with the Bulk discount setting to allow multiple qualified items on a check to be discounted at once. If your discount meets these requirements, you'll see the following settings appear in the Advanced Settings section:
- The Min Quantity is the number of items required on the check to receive the bulk discount.
- The Max Quantity is the greatest amount of items that are eligible to receive the discount.
- For example, if you're configuring a $3.00 off discount for nachos, the settings below would make it so that the discount is offered if you buy at least 2 (but up to 5) nachos.

Note: Min quantity and Max quantity cannot be changed if there are hours available set in the discount’s availability section.
