Toast stopped selling ELO guest-facing displays in Q4 2021. If your restaurant purchased a guest-facing display after this time, you likely received a Toast Flex for Guest, so check out the Toast Flex 14 Installation Guide. If you're not sure what hardware you have, visit Identify Your Toast Hardware.

For a step-by-step guide on setting up your Elo Guest-Facing Display, check out this Toast Central article, Get Started with Your Guest-Facing Display.
If Guest-Facing Display mode isn't working, or your screen isn't displaying any content, it may be due to either Toast Web settings or loose connections to your device.
In Toast Web, navigate to Payments > Checks & receipt setup > Guest display. Confirm that Screens Enabled is checked for the Guest Facing Display Screens setting. Then, check that both the HDMI and USB cables are connected to the ELO terminal using the tips below.
- If the HMDI cable is connected, you'll see an image and/or content on the screen, just like if you connect your computer to a TV or projector.
- If the USB cable is connected, you'll be able to touch and control the content on the screen.
In total, you should have three cords plugged into your Guest-Facing Display: a power cord, a micro HDMI cord, and a USB cable. Once you've confirmed your connections are secure, power cycle the device (turn it off and then back on again) using the power cable.
If you continue having issues and your Guest-Facing Display isn't displaying any content, please contact Customer Care.
The Guest-Facing Display should show menu items as you ring them in. If there's no picture or it mirrors the screen on your terminal, check that the cables are correctly and securely plugged in. Try the following steps if that doesn't work.
- Close and re-open the Toast app
- Reboot your ELO terminal by turning off and on using the power cable
Make sure the power cable is plugged in to the device. It's possible you forgot to take that step when you first set up your Guest-Facing Display.
It's most likely your terminal is frozen and needs to be power cycled:
- Locate the power button on the bottom righthand side of the terminal.
- Hold the power button down (approximately 10-15 seconds).
- Select Power Off.
- Select Ok.
If the terminal is still not functioning after the power cycle, then unplug the power cord to the tablet for 5-10 minutes. This will cause the terminal to hard reset.
- Quit and relaunch the Toast app on y our terminal.
- Check the Elo firmware version. Start by navigating to the Application page on the terminal.
- Select the Settings (gear) icon.
- Scroll to the System section and select About.
- Find your firmware version number labeled as Build Number on this page.
- Make sure this number matches the current Elo firmware version number. For an Elo V1, check that the Build Number says 1.19 or higher. For an Elo V2, the Build Number should be 3.25 or higher.
- If your firmware version number doesn't match the current number, contact Toast Customer Care.
- Unplug your card reader.
- Unplug the USB cable to your Guest-Facing Display device. The USB cable is green. You'll still be able to see the content on the second screen, just not control touch on the second screen.
- Plug in your card reader and run a test transaction.
- Plug in the green USB cable for the Guest-Facing Display.
Your card reader and Guest-Facing Display should both be functional now!
This message indicates that force mirroring is turned on, which can be turned off by following these steps:
- On your Toast app main menu, navigate to Setup > Device Setup.
- Look for Force mirroring of device on the second screen.
- Toggle the setting Off.
