Add Toast Loyalty
With Toast's Loyalty program, your guests can sign up for your Toast Loyalty program however, whenever, and wherever they want. There are several opportunities to encourage your guests to sign up for your program so that your guests have flexibility, whether that's through an in-store order at a quick-service restaurant or after paying through mobile payments at a full-service establishment.

There are several ways your guests can enroll in your restaurant's loyalty program. This article will describe each of the methods available.
Your dine-in guests can enroll in your loyalty program by providing their email address or phone number at the point of purchase. If your restaurant uses a guest-facing display, this can be done before or after their order is placed. For more information, see Toast Loyalty Usage With a Guest-Facing Display.
You can configure whether your guests will sign up with an email or phone number in Toast Web under Marketing > Loyalty > Settings. Learn more about how to set up your loyalty program in Get Started With Toast Loyalty.
During checkout:
- During checkout, a prompt will appear asking your guests if they would like to join the program with email or phone number sign-up, depending on your restaurant's settings. Note that these are shown on guest-facing displays, but staff members can also choose to sign guests up on their behalf.

Note: If a guest signs up via email or SMS text, they will receive future communications regarding the loyalty program. - Guests will enter their information and select Claim rewards to sign up.
- If a loyalty account already exists from the email or phone number entered, the guest will earn reward points toward their existing account. A new account will be created with the information entered if a loyalty account does not exist.
- Depending on which sign-up method you have configured for your loyalty program, guests will receive a welcome email or text.
If you do not see this prompt for your guests, ensure your settings are configured under Payment options in Toast Web. Check out Get Started With Toast Loyalty for more information.
After checkout on a closed check:
Staff members can also enroll guests in the loyalty program on closed checks. Usually, this workflow occurs at full-service restaurants.
- Guests will sign up for a loyalty account by writing their email or phone number on a printed receipt. You can also use this workflow to sign guests up for your loyalty program if they forgot to do so during checkout.

- Staff members can then take those receipts and enter the information in the POS on a closed check. Navigate to your closed check. Note: You can only sign guests up this way if the check is closed.
- On the guest's closed check, select Update.
- Select Pay and then Rewards signup.

- Enter the guest's email address or phone number when prompted.
- If a loyalty account already exists from the email or phone number entered, the guest will earn reward points towards their existing account. A new account will be created with the information entered if a loyalty account does not exist.
- Depending on which sign-up method you have configured for your loyalty program, guests will receive a welcome email or text.
Note:
- This is designed for sign-up by the guest, and not by the restaurant on behalf of the guest. Any guest signing up for rewards must be made aware of the terms and conditions, as well as the privacy statement, that apply to the rewards program. A restaurant may not consent on behalf of the guest.

Guests can sign up for your loyalty program through Toast Online Ordering in two ways.
- If the guest is not signed into a Toast Online Ordering account after completing their online order, they will receive a prompt asking them to sign up for both an online ordering and a loyalty account with the email entered on the checkout page.
- If a guest is already signed into a Toast Online Ordering account but has not signed up for loyalty, they will be prompted to join the loyalty program.
- Guests will earn points for this visit and any sign-up bonuses you have added.
- Depending on what signup method you have configured for your loyalty program, guests will receive a welcome email or text.
Guests can also sign up for loyalty before placing their online order by selecting the Loyalty Signup Card at the top of your online ordering page. To disable this, go to Marketing > Loyalty > Settings. Select the Settings button in the top right corner, select Channels, and then deselect the check box under the signup column next to digital ordering.
Guests can sign up for loyalty through Local by Toast:
- At checkout, a checkbox will appear on the app that guests can uncheck if they do not wish to enroll in your loyalty program.
- Guests will earn points for this visit and any sign-up bonuses you have added.
- Depending on which sign-up method you have configured for your loyalty program, guests will receive a welcome email or text.
If you have Toast Loyalty set up for your restaurant, guests will be prompted to enter their phone number (or email address, based on your Loyalty configuration) when they begin to place an order. If your guest doesn’t have a loyalty account yet, entering their information on this screen will sign them up for an account so they can accrue points with every order towards future rewards.
Kiosk supports check-in and reward redemption for third-party loyalty integrations.
Leveraging mobile payments is an excellent way for full-service restaurants to streamline Marketing with your loyalty program. To enable mobile payments at your restaurant, check out Get Started With Mobile Payments and Digital Menus.
- After checking out, guests will be prompted to sign up for the loyalty program.
- Guests will earn points for this visit and any sign up bonuses you have added.
- Depending on which sign-up method you have configured for your loyalty program, guests will receive a welcome email or text.
Guests are also able to sign up for loyalty without a purchase using your online loyalty sign-up link. Be sure to feature this link prominently on your restaurant's website and social media pages for guests to use.
- To access this link, navigate to Marketing > Loyalty > Settings in Toast Web.
- Select the Settings button at the top of the page.
- Scroll down to the Promote your program section.
- Copy the sign-up link using the copy icon. You can post this link on your social media or website to encourage guests to sign up for your program.
- When guests open the link, they can enter their email or phone number to sign up for a loyalty account.
Additionally, there is a link on the sign-up page to look up an existing account if guests have lost their loyalty account information and want the information sent to them. The Guest lookup link is also available on the settings page described above.

Guests are also able to sign up for loyalty through a link included at the bottom of digital receipts.
- Selecting the link will take guests to your online sign-up page, where they can enter their preferred email address or phone number.
- If a loyalty account exists for the email or phone number entered, the guest will earn points toward their existing account. A new account will be created with the entered information if a loyalty account doesn't exist.

Upon enrolling, Toast will send an email or text message to your guest, which contains information about the loyalty program, a link to their unique eLoyalty Card, and a points balance summary.
You can customize a few things that appear in this email. To learn more, check out Getting Started with Toast Loyalty.

Guests will receive a link to their digital loyalty card, which will have information about the program and about their loyalty accounts, such as the number of points they have earned so far and a list of their recent activity.
Guests can access their digital loyalty card directly from the Local by Toast app when viewing a restaurant.
|
A guest's Local by Toast account must have the same email or phone number as their loyalty account for the digital loyalty card to be accessed.
|
This card can be used to lookup accounts and earn points, but this is not the only way guests can continuously earn points. Check out Toast Loyalty FAQ to learn more.
Included in the digital loyalty card:
- Guest's point balances and any rewards they have earned that are ready to redeem
- Information regarding all of the different ways guests can earn points
- Information on how your guests can redeem their points
- A list of all the credit cards attached to their account
- A list of their recent activity with the loyalty account
- A link to their QR code to scan to earn and redeem points
Here's a sample of the different sections of a guest's digital loyalty card:
The logo and background image on a digital loyalty card are taken from assets uploaded to the Restaurant info page on Toast Web. Your loyalty program name and description can be customized under Marketing > Loyalty > Settings > Settings > Program description.

This next section on a digital loyalty card will describe to your guests their progress in earning points towards a reward. When a guest has enough points to redeem a reward, this section will display the reward that awaits them!
The next section will describe all of the different ways to earn points at your restaurant. This section is based on how you've set up your loyalty program. For example, if you have a double point day bonus set up, it will show up here. There is also a call to action here to encourage guests to complete their profile by adding more information like their name, email address or phone number, and birthday (if you have a birthday reward set up).
Next, your guest will see all the ways they can redeem their points. If you have Toast Online Ordering, we'll include a link to take the guest to your online ordering page. At the bottom is a link to the QR code for your guest's loyalty card. You can scan the QR code on your POS or kiosk to attach the loyalty account to an order.
The last part of the digital loyalty card is the recent activity tab, which will show a list of transactions that the guest recently made with their loyalty account at your restaurant. It will show how much they earned and what they've redeemed. If there are payment cards linked to the loyalty account, they will also be listed here on a Linked Cards tab, where the guest can verify them to ensure they can automatically redeem rewards when using that form of payment, or remove a card if desired.

Stop a Credit Card From Getting Linked to a Rewards Account
A guest cannot stop a credit card from being linked to their rewards account on the POS during checkout. When a guest uses both a rewards account and a credit card, the card is automatically linked to that account. All associated credit cards will appear in the user's online rewards account, where they can be either verified or removed. However, to prevent unintended rewards redemption, only the first card used is active by default; any other linked cards must be manually verified by the user to be used for future rewards.
