Individual Item Fulfillment

Some restaurants prefer to fulfill individual items on a ticket as they're ready, similar to checking items off a list. With Individual Item Tickets enabled, you can also manually print an order ticket or individual item tickets at an Expo. These printed tickets can be used for packaging and running orders while your KDS is displaying each item as individual tickets.

If you want the ability fulfill individual items on tickets, follow these steps:

  1. In Toast Web, navigate to Kitchen > Printers, tickets, & KDS devices > Kitchen.
  2. Scroll down to the Ticket Screens section.
  3. For the Fulfill Items setting, select Enable individual item fulfillment.
  4. Save and publish your changes.

Then, on your KDS device, you can fulfill an individual item using these steps:

  1. Single-tap on a ticket to open a pop-up with the item details.
  2. Select the individual item you wish you fulfill.
  3. Select Fulfill.

Fulfilled items on a ticket will have a green checkmark next to them.

Note: It is not possible to remove the fulfilled items from the ticket.

Unfulfill a Ticket on Your Device

If a ticket is bumped from the expo or prep station screen before it’s completed, it will need to be unfulfilled.

  1. On your KDS device, select Show recently fulfilled at the top of the screen.
  2. Select which ticket(s) you'd like to unfulfill. The tickets will be highlighted in blue.
  3. Select Unfulfill at the top of the screen.

The ticket will return to the lineup in order of the time it was originally placed.

Note: The Unfulfill button won't be visible in the top-right corner if individual item fulfillment is enabled. If your expediter uses individual item fulfillment, see the instructions in the next section of this article.

Unfulfill an Item on Your Device

  1. On your KDS device, select Show recently fulfilled at the top of the screen.
  2. Select which ticket(s) you'd like to unfulfill.
  3. A pop-up with ticket details will appear. Select the item(s) on the ticket that you'd like to unfulfill.
  4. Select Unfulfill.

Note: To unfulfill an entire ticket, highlight all items on a ticket by selecting Select all and then selecting the Unfulfill button.

Enable/Disable Double-Tap for Order Unfulfillment

Restaurants using KDS can unfulfill a ticket by double-tapping while still maintaining the ability to double-tap to fulfill. Enabling this feature will allow you to quickly revert a fulfilled ticket to unfulfilled status with two taps on the screen.

  1. On your device's main menu, navigate to Setup > Device Setup.
  2. Scroll down to the Kitchen Setup section and select the Double Tap to Fulfill Unfulfill setting.
  3. Select one, both, or none of the options available:
    1. Double-tap to fulfill
    2. Double-tap to unfulfill
  4. Select Save

Note: This setting is a device-specific configuration. When a setting is adjusted on one device, it won't affect any other device(s).

Average Fulfillment Timer

Want to give the chef even more insight into how the kitchen is running? Enable the average fulfillment timer on the KDS. Instead of reviewing the kitchen fulfillment times in the back office, a chef can see how a kitchen is performing in real-time and use that information to make adjustments. Enabling this timer will show the average fulfillment time in the top left corner of the KDS expediter or prep station screen. Seeing this time can provide real-time data that can help improve specific areas of the kitchen.

  1. On your device's main menu, navigate to Setup > Device Setup.
  2. Scroll down to the Kitchen Setup section and select the Average Fulfillment Time setting.
  3. Select Yes, show timers.
  4. Select Save.

The average times will be shown in the top-left corner of the KDS device.

  1. From the main screen, navigate to the Kitchen Display System screen.
  2. Then, select the overflow menu (the ⋮ icon) in the top right corner of your device screen, and select Device Setup.
  3. In the Device Setup screen, select KDS View. Change the view to Grid View, then select Save.
