Restaurants can leverage customized messaging specific to a guest’s desired dining option to better identify and expedite orders placed via Online Ordering. This messaging can be used to:
- Provide instructions on how to collect their take-out order when they arrive at your restaurant
- Provide information on what to expect when their delivery order arrives
- Provide instructions for delivery drivers
- Request a contactless delivery to reduce contact between guests and drivers

In this Article:
- Log in to Toast Web and navigate to Takeout & delivery > Availability > Online Ordering.
- Scroll down to the Dining Options section.
- Select the dropdown menu next to each option and choose the appropriate dining option.
- Select Add Instructions to customize messaging to guests via the order confirmation page and in their e-receipt.
- You can add custom messaging in the text field once enabled.
- Be sure to Save and Publish your changes!
Your custom messaging will now show on the guest's confirmation page and digital receipt.

Whether ordering through Online Ordering or Toast TakeOut, guests may have specific instructions for delivery orders. In efforts to reduce contact between guests and drivers, guests can use the Delivery Instructions field when placing an order. This field can be used to direct delivery drivers to drop an order off at your front door or outside your building and can be found in the Delivery Info section.
When placing an order, guests can write exactly what a driver should do with their order when they arrive. It could be as simple as "Please ring the doorbell and leave it on the porch."
On the Toast TakeOut app, a checkbox option Request Contactless Delivery will appear if the guest has already input delivery instructions in the field. Checking this will add "PLEASE MAKE THIS CONTACTLESS DELIVERY" to the end of their delivery notes.
If you have delivery enabled for your restaurant, this option will automatically be available for your guests.
